Jackson and Catholic priest Michael Pfleger denounce sales of guns

(Newser) – Rev. Jess Jackson and Fr. Michael Pfleger were arrested for blocking the door of Chuck's Gun Shop in Riverdale, a suburb abutting the southern edge of Chicago. They and others were there protesting the ready availability of guns next to a crime-plagued part of the city, which bans the sales of guns.

Some accused Jackson of grandstanding; the arrest was at least his 15th associated with various protests. It was Jackson's third appearance at the gun shop. And he has promised to return.

The woman, 61, explained to a police dispatcher that her husband "pushed me over the edge" but insisted she wasn't trying to hurt him. She said her spouse was dealing poorly with a stroke and a family death, and was "taking it out on me." More»

Adult who brought gun into home is busted

(NEWSER) - A 3-year-old Colorado toddler has shot and killed a 5-year-old friend, according to police. An adult who brought the gun into the home where the shooting occurred has been arrested on charges of child abuse resulting in death and criminal negligence. Adam Laham, 23, was not related to either of the boys, but was visiting the home from Kansas along with several other adults, reports ABC News . A member of the family living in the home had photos of guns posted on his Facebook page, KMGH-TV in Denver discovered. Chicago cops investigating Facebook picture

(NEWSER) - Chicago police are investigating a father who posted a Facebook photo of a young girl, apparently his daughter, whose feet, hands, and face are bound with duct tape. "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back," said the caption accompanying the photo posted by Andre Curry, 21. A friend of Curry's insisted Curry was "being playful with his child; people play with their child differently," reports the Smoking Gun . But another friend's comment was of a different nature: "You goin' to jail." The girl appears to be leaning against a baby dressed in a snowsuit. Curry has removed the photo and has refused to comment to the media. Police said the probe is "ongoing." More»

(NEWSER) - A gunman indiscriminately opened fire at passing motorists in Hollywood today, hitting one person in the head who is now critically wounded, reports the Los Angeles Times .
