Alanis Ex Cops to Making Mess, Inspiring Song

(Newser Summary) – Comedian Dave Coulier says he is indeed the target of Alanis Morissette's angry 1990s hit "You Oughta Know." The two had a nasty breakup at the time, but Coulier denied the rumors that he was the creator "of the mess that you made when you went away" until he spilled to the Calgary Herald. Morissette has also stayed mum.

On first hearing the song, "I said, 'Wow, this girl is angry.' And then I said, 'Oh man, I think it's Alanis,'" said Coulier. "I listened to the song over and over again, and I said, 'I think I have really hurt this person.'" Coulier said he and the singer met to talk about how to handle the inevitable questions. "And it was beautiful," he said. “It was one of those things where it was kind of like, 'We're good.'"
