Biden Comes Out Swinging in Rally

Posted Aug 23, 08 3:13 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – Barack Obama officially introduced Joe Biden as his running mate today, and the newly minted VP candidate wasted no time attacking John McCain. Biden said he was a friend of McCain’s, but McCain had given in to the GOP's right wing. He poked fun at McCain’s house gaffe, saying that to fret about the economy around the kitchen table, McCain would have to “figure out which of the kitchen tables to sit at.”

Obama called Biden a rare leader who was ready to step in and be president. “I can tell you Joe Biden gets it,” he said. “For decades, he has brought change to Washington, but Washington hasn't changed him.” Biden then jogged onstage to Bruce Springsteen’s “The Rising.” At one point, he slipped up and dubbed his running mate “Barack America.” The crowd dutifully corrected him with an “O-bam-a” chant.
