(Newser) – Charles Rangel, the Harlem Democrat who chairs the House Ways and Means committee, will speak at the party’s convention after all, the New York Post reports. Rangel was originally denied a spot, angering his boosters, but his surrogates got organizers to shoehorn him in today. Rangel is scheduled to speak between 4-5pm (Mountain) today, before Dennis Kucinich.

(NEWSER) - An American politician is leading the way on the Syrian crisis and it’s not a former president or even John Kerry, but rather ... Dennis Kucinich. This morning, the Atlantic spotted this tweet from a CNN reporter in Damascus: “Ran into Dennis Kucinich in another hotel. Told me he’s on a fact-finding mission. Met w Assad for 3 hrs yest. Wouldn’t elaborate.” Syria’s state-run television soon reported the visit, saying that Kucinich and British Conservative Party member Brooks Newmark had met with Assad and “expressed keenness on Syria’s security and stability.” More»

(NEWSER) - House GOP leaders canceled a vote on a Dennis Kucinich resolution to end the conflict in Libya today, because they were afraid lawmakers would actually vote for the thing. John Boehner “is concerned that if this were to come to the floor now, it would pass,” one senior Republican staffer tells Politico . Another says there’s “lots of unrest on both sides of the aisle.” Boehner has scheduled a special meeting for tomorrow to decide what to do about Libya. More»

Willie Nelson Retracts 'Teapot' Endorsement

He backed pro-legalization Gary Johnson but now likes Kucinich

(NEWSER) - After voicing support for pro-pot Gary Johnson as a presidential candidate , Willie Nelson has apparently changed his tune, notes the Daily Caller . It's "too early for me to endorse anyone,” the singer said in an email to a member of his marijuana-legalization activist group, the Teapot Party. (The exchange is recounted here .) Though he acknowledged backing New Mexico's former GOP governor, who no longer indulges himself but backs legalization, Nelson wrote: “I think I will wait and see where he stands on other things.
