Three Freshmen Dems Balking at Immigration Bill

(Newser) – Three Senate Democrats--all newly elected in close races--are lining up against  the controversial immigration bill championed by President Bush and Democratic leaders. They and eight other Democratic naysayers could be crucial in determining the fate of the bill, reports the New York Times. A vote in the Senate could come as soon as tomorrow.

 One of the three, Jon Tester of Montana, said his constituents were overwhelmingly opposed to the measure and that he was getting "a clearer signal" from them on this issue than on the war in Iraq. Tester and colleagues Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Jim Webb of Virginia believe the bill would not do enough to stop the flood of immigrants entering the country illegally.
