(Newser) – The 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin is 5 months pregnant, the Republican vice presidential candidate said today, and plans to keep the child and marry the father. John McCain knew about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before choosing the Alaska governor as his running mate, Reuters reports. The statement comes after speculation on liberal blogs that Palin, 44, faked her most recent pregnancy to cover for her daughter.
"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned," Palin and her husband said in a statement. "We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support."
