Cindy McCain, Laura Bush Visit La. GOP Delegates

Posted Sep 1, 08 3:37 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – With most Republican convention events postponed due to Gustav, Laura Bush and Cindy McCain made the case for the Republican ticket, the Chicago Tribune reports. At a breakfast meeting for the Louisiana delegation today, the first lady praised John McCain’s experience and engagement with foreign policy, and Cindy McCain said she was "extremely proud of his pick for vice president."

"I'm so happy,” echoed Laura Bush, “because I'm actually going to have the chance to vote for a Republican woman this time.” Cindy also praised her husband’s disaster preparedness: "I know that we have watched John, particularly this week, exhibit the kind of leadership, honor and integrity that it takes to make a fine president."
