Former Gay Converters Apologize

Erstwhile opponents affirm homosexuality

(Newser) – Three ex-leaders of the country's largest Christian gay-conversion ministry apologized for their behavior yesterday, saying the group had caused psychological distress to those it claimed to help. An Exodus International co-founder, now out as a gay man, lamented that the organization had made people feel "compelled to try to change an integral part of themselves," the LA Times reports.

The three men continue to be "committed Christians," said one of them, who now leads a gay ministry in the UK. The public apology was timed with the conversion group’s yearly conference, which issued only a simple disagreement with the three.

Baptist preacher Dale McAlpine spent seven hours in jail on charges that because he had made the remark loudly enough for others to overhear, it constituted abusive language. (NEWSER) - Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon stirred up some controversy with her interview in Sunday's New York Times Magazine , in which she said that homosexuality is, for her, "a choice." Nixon, promoting her appearance in a Broadway play opening Thursday, explained that she recently gave a speech to a gay audience that included the line, "I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better." She was asked to change it because "it implies that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice," she said. More»

'Not Gay Enough' Ballplayers Win Settlement

Team with bisexual players stripped of trophy by gay sports group

(NEWSER) - Three bisexual softball players who say they were stripped of a trophy because they were deemed "not gay enough" have reached an out-of-court settlement with a national gay sports organization. San Francisco's D2 team lost its 2008 second-place trophy in the Gay Softball World Series when the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance determined through a series of "intrusive" questions about their sexuality before a panel that three members were "non-gay," and the team therefore exceeded the limit of two heterosexual players, reports the San Francisco Chronicle . Though one of the three men was married at the time, all three consider themselves bisexual, but say they were told at the time: "This is the Gay World Series, not the Bisexual World Series," according to their lawsuit. The amount of the settlement sum was not disclosed, but part of the deal is that the second-place trophy will be restored to the team. More»
