(Newser) – Evangelical groups are standing squarely behind Sarah Palin and her family following the news that her teenage daughter Bristol is pregnant, CNN reports. Pro-life leaders hailed Bristol's decision to keep her baby with her family's support and dismissed any suggestion that her pregnancy is at odds with Palin's promotion of teen abstinence.
"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect," said James Dobson, founder of ultra-conservative Focus on the Family and a key figure in the pro-life movement. Conservatives have been outraged at speculation about the Palins on liberal blogs, and any Democratic comments critical of the family are likely to meet a fierce response.

Oct 31, 08 2:05 PM CDT A friend of Sarah Palin’s is cashing in on the mania for the candidate with a calendar, the Los Angeles Times reports. She gave some photos to the campaign but had enough leftovers for a 13-month calendar. Available soon at Barnes & Noble (really). More »
Oct 24, 08 4:29 PM CDT The attacks lobbed at Sarah Palin have less to do with the candidate herself and more with the shame, guilt, and grief of the post-abortion community, the co-founder of an anti-abortion group writes in the National Review. Kevin Burke says Palin inspires such vitriol because she chose to have a baby with Down Syndrome, exposing the “painful wound in our culture.” More »
Before, they were excited about her, with the Down syndrome baby. Now they are over the moon. It reinforces the fact that this family lives its pro-life values. - Conservative activist Grover Norquist
This is the pro-life choice. Those who criticizise the Palin family don't understand that we don't see babies as a punishment but as a blessing. - Evangelical leader Richard Land
