Bonds Hits 750, 5 from Record

(Newser) – Barry Bonds smacked his 750th home run last night, bringing him just 5 shy of Hank Aaron’s record. The Giants lost to the Diamondbacks 4-3, but Bay Area fans were thrilled enough with the milestone to overlook the team’s third straight loss.

Bonds’ homer in the 8th, which tied the game until Miguel Montero homered for the D-backs in the 10th, came after an incident in which a fan hopped a fence and ran out in the field to Bonds. Bonds calmly greeted the man, put his arm around him, and walked him to security, as fans chanted "Barry! Barry!"  “He just wanted to shake my hand,” Bonds said later.
