Palin Is Feisty, Good-Looking: Schwarzenegger

Governator's Q&A with German mag ruffles Calif. feathers, too

(Newser) – Arnold Schwarzenegger has given an interview to a German magazine so candid that some in Sacramento are wondering if the Q&A with the California governor was mistranslated, the Los Angeles Times reports. Schwarzenegger told Der Spiegel he was surprised by John McCain's choice of the "feisty" and "good-looking" Sarah Palin, and that Tim Pawlenty was "the smartest" of the potential veep picks.

Schwarzegger said he skipped the Republican National Convention because such attract "hardcore" types—like California’s GOP leaders. "I have almost no contact with them. None," he said. The state's Republican lawmakers—who wore name tags to a meeting with Schwarzenegger yesterday—say they're now back on good terms with the governor.

"It could happen to my daughter; it could happen to anyone's daughter," California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said of the pregnancy of Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter.   (AP Photo)

Maybe Lieberman would have been a good choice because it really would have been a showing of bipartisanship or post-partisanship. Or Tim Pawlenty. I think Pawlenty is without any doubt the smartest of all of them. - Arnold Schwarzenegger

I’ve never done a check on the people who work in the garden outside to see if they have their documentation, if they have immigration papers. I mean, who does that? Nobody. - Arnold Schwarzenegger

As a man and a politician, I respect Obama. It’s just that, if I have a choice between the two, I’d rather go with McCain. But that doesn’t mean that I have to say that the other guy is the worst thing on Earth. - Arnold Schwarzenegger
