On Paper, Ohio State-USC Matchup Worthy of the Hype

Posted Sep 11, 08 4:17 PM CDT in Opinion Sports

(Newser) – The hype machine is in overdrive ahead of Saturday’s meeting between Ohio State and Southern Cal, each ranked among college football’s top five teams. Both have seen big-time dramatic matchups in recent years, leading Jon Wilner, in the San Jose Mercury News, to wonder, “will Saturday's showdown in the LA Coliseum approach that level of drama?” Among reasons Wilner says you should watch:

  • The winner becomes the early favorite to reach the Bowl Championship Series title game.
  • Parking passes alone are $75 each, and two tickets will cost you $3,000 on eBay.
  • Expect to see players from both teams soon on the NFL gridiron.
  • Trojans coach Pete Carroll—a Buckeyes assistant in 1979—is now “the best big-game coach in the country.”
