Twist Is Top All-Time Hit

Posted Sep 12, 08 3:12 PM CDT in Business Arts & Living

(Newser) – Billboard has produced its definitive list of the top 100 songs of the past 50 years—and it's full of surprises. One is that neither Elvis nor the Beatles made the top five. They were beaten out by Santana, Bobby Darin, and even Los Del Rio's Macarena. Another twist—Chubby Checker's The Twist is the all-time No. 1 hit song. The top 10 are:

  1. The Twist: Chubby Checker
  2. Smooth: Santana
  3. Mack the Knife: Bobby Darin
  4. How Do I Live: Leann Rimes
  5. The Macarena: Los Del Rio
  6. Physical: Olivia Newton-John
  7. You Light Up My Life: Debby Boone
  8. Hey Jude: The Beatles
  9. We Belong Together: Mariah Carey
  10. Un-break My Heart: Toni Braxton
