Taxpayers in Texas counties and Louisiana parishes hit by Hurricane Ike will get until Jan. 5 to take care of tax filings and payments due this fall, the Internal Revenue Service said today. The IRS said the deadline extensions apply to 29 Texas counties and 14 Louisiana parishes declared presidential disaster areas.

The postponements apply to return filings, tax payments and other acts due on or after Sept. Sept. 7, in the case of Texas, and Sept. 11, for Louisiana. They include individual estimated tax returns and corporate tax returns due Sept. 15 and amended individual returns due Oct. 15. The relief extends a seven-day postponement of deadlines for Ike victims announced last Friday. (More taxes stories.)
