Officials Clear Chinese Gymnasts

But some of the 2000 competitors were too young, FIG says

(AP) – China's 2008 gold medal gymnasts are in the clear, after international gymnastics officials said today the documentation provided confirms the women were old enough to compete. But the Chinese team that won the bronze medal 8 years ago still faces questions about the age of two competitors.

"The FIG does not consider the explanations and evidence provided to date in regards to these athletes as satisfactory," the International Gymnastics Federation said in a statement. One, Dong Fangxiao, got a Beijing Olympics credential with documents that suggest she was only 14 in 2000. Her blog also indicates she was underage in Sydney.
