(Newser) – Today the Hershey's Kiss will turn 100 and The Hershey Company is pulling out all the stops. What do you get the candy that has everything?  A U.S. postage stamp?  A 15,026 pound bigger-than-life-size version of itself? A party? Yes.

For such a well-known product the name of the kiss is shrouded in some mystery.  It might have been named after the sound the machine making it produced.  It might be that slang 100 years ago for a bite-sized piece of candy was a "kiss."  And while the Kiss began as a simple small piece of milk chocolate it now has many other versions ranging from toffee to caramel-filled.
