(Newser) – A promising New York Rangers prospect collapsed and died during a hockey game in Russia last night, AP reports. First-round draft pick Alexei Cherepanov, 19, collapsed from an apparent heart attack on the bench after playing most of the game and could not be revived. The Rangers held a moment of silence for the Russian player before last night's game against the Devils.

He was skating in on a 2-on-1 with Jaromir and then they came back to the bench. Jaromir was talking to him and he told him he has to score on that play. The next thing you know, he collapsed. - Cherepanov's agent Jay Grossman
