Lance: I'll Only Ride in 'Serene' Tour

Posted Oct 14, 08 1:17 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Lance Armstrong will race in the three-week Giro d’Italia for the first time next year, but a return visit to the Tour de France is in doubt, the Telegraph reports. Armstrong, recently out of retirement, has historically clashed with Tour management, and his team was banned from this year’s race for doping-related issues. Still, Armstrong said he would love to race in France again, “but in a serene situation.”

"Everybody knows its importance but the problems I have with the organizers, journalists, and fans could be distracting for my mission," said Armstrong, "to focus world attention on the battle against cancer."
