Sheehan to Pelosi: Impeach or I'll Run

Anti-war mom threatens to challenge Speaker's House seat

(Newser) – Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan declared her intention to challenge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her congressional seat yesterday unless the top-ranking Democrat draws up articles of impeachment against President Bush. "Democrats and Americans feel betrayed by the Democratic leadership," said Sheehan. "We hired them to bring an end to the war."

The firebrand mom vitalized the Iraq War opposition with her month-long vigil outside Bush's Crawford ranch after her son was killed in battle in 2004. In May she pulled out of the anti-war movement, disillusioned with lack of progress. Now Sheehan's giving Pelosi until July 23 to start the process to oust Bush before she officially enters the race for the San Francisco seat.
