Prosecutor Accuses Knox of Satanic Murder

(AP) – Italian prosecutors today accused an Amanda Knox of fatally stabbing her British house mate in a Satanic rite and asked a court to put an alleged African accomplice in prison for life, defense lawyers said. Knox, a 21-year-old American, proclaimed her innocence at the closed-door hearing in the Umbrian university town of Perugia and accused police of hitting her and calling her a liar during an interrogation, the AP reports.

At his lawyers' request, a fast-track trial is being conducted for Rudy Hermann Guede, the Ivorian accused in the case. He has acknowledged being in the bedroom where Meredith Kercher's body, stabbed in the neck and lying in a pool of blood, was found in November 2007 in the house she rented with Knox.The court deciding Guede's fate is also hearing arguments on whether Knox and her former boyfriend should stand trial for the slaying.

(NEWSER) - After a days-long bidding war, HarperCollins has obtained the rights to Amanda Knox's memoir in a $4 million deal, insiders tell the New York Times . Divisions of Random House, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, and Penguin all reportedly bid on the book, which Knox says will be based in part on the journal she kept in prison. (NEWSER) - Amanda Knox spent fours years in an Italian prison before her murder conviction was tossed out, but now she's ready to head back to Italy. She still "loves Italy," and will likely travel there as a tourist, her attorney tells ABC News . She's also planning to go in the fall to testify at her parents' slander trial. Curt Knox was charged with slander after he told an Italian newspaper that local cops roughed up his daughter. Her mom was also charged when she said Amanda was warned that she'd never see her parents again. A preliminary hearing in the slander case was held yesterday. (NEWSER) - Major book deals are in the works for both defendants in the sensational Meredith Kercher murder trial. Amanda Knox has hired Washington, DC-based lawyer Robert Barnett to broker possible deals, Reuters reports. Barnett has represented President Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and many other big names from the worlds of politics and entertainment.
