Sox Fans Drove Joba to Drive Drunk: Report

Pitcher's DUI arrest came after taunts about Yankees' season

(Newser) – Joba Chamberlain nearly got into a fistfight with a Red Sox fan before his alleged DUI, the New York Post reports. Chamberlain began the ill-fated night by pounding a couple Grey Goose drinks at a friend’s bar, before hitting a strip club. There he encountered a heckler. “Too bad you didn’t play for the Red Sox,” said another customer. “Otherwise, you wouldn't be sitting here in a strip club in Nebraska.”

An angry Chamberlain jumped to his feet, but several friends stepped in before the incident went beyond pushing and shoving. Chamberlain left in a huff, and was apprehended moments later; according to authorities, Chamberlain’s BAC was at nearly twice the legal limit. It was a sad end to the night. “He tipped pretty well,” said one customer at the strip club. “The girls were excited he was here.”
