Hearst Mansion on Sale for Record $165M

(Newser) – Beverly House, a gargantuan pink stucco mansion in Beverly Hills once owned by William Randolph Hearst, is on the market for a cool $165 million, making it  the most expensive residential listing in the nation. Runners up are an estate in Big Sky country on the market for $155 million and an Aspen compound being peddled by Saudi Prince Bandar for $135 million.

Although a house has never actually sold for over $100 million, the Los Angeles Times notes that houses with price tags in the eight figures are selling briskly, demonstrating the growing ranks of the extraordinarily wealthy. Hearst himself lived only four years at Beverly House before whispering Rosebud, but his widow hosted glittering parties there until 1961.
