But Stephen and Jessica Whyte insist someone put human feces in the gelato they were served at a Sydney hotel. Newspapers noticed that the Whytes have ties to a rival pub, but the family lawyer calls that a “Kevin Bacon six-degrees-of-separation” defense. “My question is: ‘Did Kevin Bacon put the feces in the ice cream?’” he says.
Jessica Whyte says one bite of the complimentary bowl she was served made her violently ill. They sent some to the National Measurements Institute, which discovered “properties similar to human excreta.” The hotel says the Whytes are asking for $1 million in “hush money,” which the Whytes deny. “The hotel, rather than addressing the issue, is attacking the Whyte family,” complained the lawyer.
