Pistons Trade For Iverson, Send Billups to Denver

Forward McDyess also leaves as Detroit gambles on oft-unhappy scorer

(Newser) – The Detroit Pistons have agreed to acquire guard Allen Iverson from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for guard Chauncey Billups and forward Antonio McDyess, the Detroit Free Press reports. The 33-year-old Iverson, a former league MVP with a reputation as a malcontent, hasn’t helped Denver get deep into the playoffs, as the team expected when it acquired him from Philadelphia in 2006.

Billups, 32, is a Colorado native who was NBA Finals MVP with Detroit in 2004; McDyess, 34, was originally drafted by the Nuggets, who are also getting center Cheikh Samb in the deal, the Rocky Mountain News adds. “Another scorer back there,” Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace said. “We'll see how it plays out. That's not a Guaransheed right there so I can't comment too much.”
