Rahm Emanuel will be Barack Obama’s White House chief of staff, CNN reports. The Democratic congressman accepted Obama’s offer this afternoon, aides said. Emanuel, whose aggressive, take-no-prisoners political style has earned him the nickname “Rahmbo,” has been close to his fellow Chicagoan since Obama arrived in Washington.

John Boehner, the House minority leader, slammed Obama’s decision: The Emanuel pick is “ironic for a president-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil, and govern from the center,” he said in a statement. (More Barack Obama stories.)
