Salmonella Taste Toll Rises Again — to 636

Posted Jul 18, 07 7:08 AM CDT in US Business Science & Health

(Newser) – Investigators say the cucumber hummus at the Pars Cove Persian Cuisine booth at Taste of Chicago was the culprit in a salmonella outbreak that has now hit 636 people who patronized the festival. Fifty cases are confirmed; 25 have been hospitalized.

The incident occurred despite the fact that the city assigned four inspectors to the 70 food booths at the festival. Said the spokesman, "Until technology comes up with magic glasses to see pathogens with our naked eyes, we'll never know whether a dish has salmonella."
