Giambi Faces Steroids Probe

Posted Jul 14, 07 3:06 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Jason Giambi, lawyer in tow, met yesterday with George Mitchell, the investigator for MLB's steroids probe. The Yankee first-baseman,  the first active player to sit down with Mitchell, clarified beforehand that he would only discuss his "own personal history"—which he has admitted includes steroid use.

Giambi agreed to the meeting last month when Commissioner Bud Selig told him noncooperation would result in discipline. Though the league has refused to release details of yesterday's session, the commish has said he will consider "Giambi's level of cooperation" in dishing out comeuppance. Meanwhile, an injured foot has benched the Yankee slugger since May 30.
