King of Pop will claim prince's $7M advance was gift

(Newser) – Michael Jackson will appear in a London court next week in a civil trial over his soured partnership with Bahrain's Sheikh Abdullah, the Guardian reports. The Sheikh reportedly gave Jackson a $7M advance for several joint business ventures that never came to fruition, including building Jackson his own "oasis of calm" in Bahrain where he could write and record hits.

(AP) - Just days after the anniversary of his death, a famed black-and-red calfskin jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the classic Thriller video has sold at auction for $1.8 million. The jacket is one of two Jackson wore during the filming of the 1983 Thriller video. The buyer is Texas commodities trader Milton Verret, who says it will be sent on tour and used as a fundraising tool for children's charities. A portion of the sale price will go to the Shambala Preserve, a big cat sanctuary caring for two tigers Jackson once owned. More»

It's the first music video to make the National Film Registry

(NEWSER) - Michael Jackson has scored another posthumous honor: The Library of Congress has selected his "Thriller" video to be among the 25 films added this year to the National Film Registry. It's the first music video to make the cut. Other honorees include The Muppet Movie, Dog Day Afternoon, Pillow Talk, and a 1972 effort by then-NYU student Martin Brest called Hot Dogs for Gauguin.
