In its questionnaire for job seekers, the Obama transition team is asking applicants if they own guns, and to provide detailed registration information on any that they do or did, Politico reports. The team says the question is just aimed at ferreting out any potential gun law violations, but gun fans are locking and loading outrage. One Republican senator is even considering a law preventing a president from using gun ownership to block an applicant.

“This is proof positive that we are going to see some of the most liberal change in our nation’s history,” declares one Republican senator. Notes one Democratic wag of the brouhaha: “Given the behavior of the vice president under the last administration, you may want to know these things.” (More gun lobby stories.)
