(Newser) – Plaxico Burress' troubled season continued last night when he accidentally shot himself in the leg in a nightclub, Fox Sports reports. Details are yet to emerge, and Yahoo! Sports reports that someone may have shot the New York Giants receiver, but his injuries are not said to be life threatening. The 31-year-old spent the night in the hospital and is expected to play again this season.

“From everything I’ve heard, he was really lucky,” a Burress relative said. The star player, who caught the Giants’ game-winning touchdown pass in the last Super Bowl, had already been scheduled to sit out tomorrow’s game against the Washington Redskins because of a hamstring injury. Burress has also been suspended and fined for three violations of team and NFL  rules.
