Teammate to Testify Against Plax

Giants linebacker Pierce hid gun, seeks to avoid charges

(Newser) – New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce will testify against teammate Plaxico Burress in order to avoid being charged himself, the New York Post reports. Pierce’s testimony should guarantee Burress is indicted for felony weapons possession. The receiver has been suspended for the rest of the season, and faces 3½ years in prison on the illegal handgun charge.

Along with Burress’ wife, Tiffany, Pierce attempted to hide the gun after his teammate accidentally shot himself Saturday night. Meanwhile, multiple people connected to the Giants were aware of the situation as it unfolded, according to a complicated timeline released by a spokesman. Still to be uncovered is who gave the hospital an alias for Burress, who denies doing so himself.

My plan is to abide by the requests of the DA. If the DA's office requests that Mr. Pierce testify before the grand jury, he will do so. Our position is he [didn't] break any laws.
- Michael Bachner, Antonio Pierce's lawyer
