An opinion column denouncing gay marriage—and illustrated with an image of a man adjacent to a sheep—has many University of Washington students beside themselves and demanding sensitivity training for their student newspaper, reports The Seattle Times. The editor of The Daily has refused to apologize, citing the need for a “balance of viewpoints” in the paper.

“Once you’ve legalized gay marriage, why not polygamy, incest, bestiality or any other form of union?” asks the column. The paper’s editors defended the controversial image, with one adding: “It was meant to be an illustration of one point in the column.” The controversy comes weeks after the Daily’s unpopular surprise endorsement of Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi.
