Brit's Circus Tops the Charts

Will be singer's fifth No. 1

(AP) – Britney Spears' latest CD, Circus, has landed her back at a familiar position—No. 1. The singer's comeback CD—make that her second comeback CD—will top the album charts next week, according to her label, Jive. Though Nielsen SoundScan does not release its official figures until today, estimates have the record selling as many as 500,000 copies in its first week of release.

Spears' last CD, Blackout, also debuted at No.1 last year, but quickly fizzled because Spears didn't really promote it amid the chaos in her life. Things are different this time, with a flurrly of high-profile performances and a world tour set to kick off March 3. "At the end of the day, I think she is the world's pop princess, and this just reconfirms it to everyone who doubted it," said her manager, Larry Rudolph.

(NEWSER) - Buoyed by the singer’s passing, Michael Jackson’s Thriller looks set to match the Eagles’ Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 as the bestselling album ever in the US, Billboard reports. The Eagles compilation was certified 29 times platinum in 2006, having sold at least 29 million copies—but Billboard says the sales boost from Jackson’s death and Sony’s marketing have probably pushed album shipments past that figure. (NEWSER) - On Saturday, a Whitney Houston greatest-hits album cost about $8 in the UK iTunes store; but shortly after the singer was found dead, it had jumped to a little more than $12.50. The changed sparked a customer uproar. "It is just a case of iTunes cashing in on the singer's death, which in my opinion is totally parasitic," said one, according to DigitalSpy .
