Abusers targeted victims as young as 12 months old

(Newser) – Australian authorities have busted 19 men, including a retired cop, in a 70-nation kiddie porn ring that distributed at least 500,000 images and 15,000 videos of youngsters, reports the BBC. Some of the abuse victims were as young as 12 months old and some children were abused for as long as two hours at a time, said investigators, who termed the abuse among the worst they've seen. Victims appeared to be from Eastern Europe and North and South America.

(NEWSER) - A stunning 200 priests suspected of committing sexual abuse are living in California, mostly unknown to communities, according to a lawyer who sued the LA Archdiocese on behalf of 500 plaintiffs, reports MSNBC . (NEWSER) - A "bored" London court clerk was busted after looking at hardcore bondage pornography in the middle of a British rape trial. The judge spotted the photos on the clerk's computer as he peered over his bench while the victim described her horrific attack. When the judge "noticed what was taking place, he initially hoped that he had been mistaken or the behavior would desist," according to court records. It didn't. Police found several similar images and kiddie porn on the clerk's work and home computer, reports the Daily Mail . He told the court he "only looked at porn if the case was boring." More»

Adult who brought gun into home is busted

(NEWSER) - A 3-year-old Colorado toddler has shot and killed a 5-year-old friend, according to police. An adult who brought the gun into the home where the shooting occurred has been arrested on charges of child abuse resulting in death and criminal negligence. Adam Laham, 23, was not related to either of the boys, but was visiting the home from Kansas along with several other adults, reports ABC News . A member of the family living in the home had photos of guns posted on his Facebook page, KMGH-TV in Denver discovered. Chicago cops investigating Facebook picture

(NEWSER) - Chicago police are investigating a father who posted a Facebook photo of a young girl, apparently his daughter, whose feet, hands, and face are bound with duct tape. "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back," said the caption accompanying the photo posted by Andre Curry, 21. A friend of Curry's insisted Curry was "being playful with his child; people play with their child differently," reports the Smoking Gun . But another friend's comment was of a different nature: "You goin' to jail." The girl appears to be leaning against a baby dressed in a snowsuit. Curry has removed the photo and has refused to comment to the media. Police said the probe is "ongoing." More»

(NEWSER) - Kidnap victim Elizabeth Smart "couldn't feel more worthless and degraded" than the day she was raped by her captor, she revealed. "It was the worst feeling I could ever have felt," the now 24-year-old university student recounted yesterday. Smart, who was abducted from her Utah bedroom at knifepoint at the age of 14, was then tethered to a metal cable strung between trees and raped multiple times a day for nine months by deranged, menacing drifter Brian David Mitchell, who is now serving a life sentence. It was the first time Smart has talked publicly about the details of her captivity, and she cried as she spoke at a Salt Lake City fundraising event for her charity the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which educates children on how to protect themselves from danger.
