Pearl Sues Al-Qaeda in Husband's Beheading

Posted Jul 19, 07 7:45 AM CDT in US World

(Newser) – Mariane Pearl, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter who was beheaded in 2002, has filed a suit in New York against Al-Qaeda for Daniel Pearl's "senseless kidnapping, torture and murder." Habib Bank—one of the biggest banks in Pakistan, which is linked to charities supporting terrorist groups—was also named in the lawsuit.

Pearl, whose ordeal is recounted in the current film "A Mighty Heart," is seeking an amount of money the court "deems necessary" to stop the defendants from committing further acts of terrorism. Among those named is one of Pearl's kidnappers and a chief plotter of 9/11 who confessed to beheading the journalist as the murder was videotaped.
