Player Charges PGA Drug Use

Posted Jul 19, 07 5:45 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Former British Open champion Gary Player said yesterday he knows "for a fact" some players on the PGA Tour have used performance-enhancing drugs. "Whether it's HGH, whether it's creatine, or whether it's steroids," the 1968 Carnoustie winner lamented, "we're dreaming if we think it's not coming into golf."

Random testing revealed no violations last year, however, and other pros have scoffed at Player's claims. Although he doubts the allegations, Tiger Woods says he's in favor of systematic screening, which LPGA officials are currently instituting. What's it likely to turn up? "Maybe being hung over a little bit," Woods jested.
