(Newser) – The Obama girls don’t have their puppy yet, but Joe Biden wasted no time in picking out his new veep's best friend, the (Delaware) News Journal reports. The vice president-elect has chosen a six-week-old male German shepherd—the “pick of the litter,” says the Pennsylvania breeder. Biden’s wife Jill had promised him a “big dog” if he got elected. Biden says his grandkids will get the naming honors.

"When [Biden] picked up my dog and hugged him and kissed him, I was so happy," the breeder said. "I knew he’s going to love the dog forever."
