AP picks at details of MTV video of civil ceremony

Spencer Pratt insists his marriage to Hills co-star Heidi Montag is legal, though AP finds inconsistencies in accounts of a Beverly Hills civil ceremony filmed by MTV and set to air Monday. MTV tells Us Magazine the couple filmed after hours with a deputy commissioner; the court says no judge was involved, and the recorder has no record either of a marriage or that an after-hours official was requested.

Pratt says he and Montag requested the marriage certificate be kept confidential, which could suggest that the made-for-reality-TV nuptials was staged. MTV’s statement did not say if the ceremony was completed; a staffer says an upset Montag left during the proceedings but didn’t know if she returned. The couple “symbolically” wed in Mexico last month. (More Spencer Pratt stories.)
