Dell May Be Set to Float MacBook Air Rival

'Adamo' mystery sets tech world abuzz

(Newser) – Dell's mystery product Adamo could be a super-slim laptop even lighter than the MacBook Air, but it's proving impossible to get solid information about it, Ashlee Vance writes in the New York Times. The firm has registered the trademark and set up a teaser site, but declines to comment on Adamo. A Dell exec appeared shocked when asked if a lighter-than-Air product was in the works.

"I think we need to get some iconic products out there, so people associate Dell’s brand with other things," the exec acknowledged. That means "goodbye to clunky, and hello to sleek," Vance writes. Analysts aren't sure if Dell will be able to rival the aesthetics of the MacBook Air, but its ability to shave hundreds off the price has the tech world watching developments closely.

Rumor has it that Dell is coming out with a computer called Adamo that will rival the MacBook Air, said an item on a luxury goods site that was swiftly yanked.
