Kennedy's Senate Push Irks NY Democrats

Many New York Democrats are getting increasingly annoyed with Caroline Kennedy’s push to be senator—most notably Gov. David Paterson, the man who’d have to give her the job, the New York Times reports. Paterson advisers say he’s frustrated Kennedy’s handlers are treating the appointment as a foregone conclusion, while other top Democrats grouse she’s too connected to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“The quickest way to not get something you want is to step in somebody’s face,” warns one Paterson adviser. Kennedy also waffled recently over whether she’d support a Democrat in New York’s mayoral race, a sign of loyalty to the independent Bloomberg. “Her first obligation might be to the mayor,” complained the state Assembly speaker, “rather than the governor who would be appointing her.” (More Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg stories.)
