Bhutto's Daughter Mourns With YouTube Rap Video

She would take the pain away, apparently

(Newser) – Benazir Bhutto’s oldest daughter has marked the anniversary of her mother’s death with a heartfelt tribute—in the form of a dirge-like YouTube rap video. Over a montage of images of her late mother, 18-year-old Bakhtawar Zardari sings lines like, “You have beauty and intelligence, everything you did have relevance.”

The Edinburgh University student is an avid music fan—she once asked a friend in the US to introduce her to P Diddy—who was encouraged to sing by her mother. Her mournful rap isn’t likely to net her a record deal, but it seems heartfelt. “It is the tribute of a grieving daughter to her iconic mother,” said Pakistan’s information minister.

(NEWSER) - Victoria's Secret model and YouTube starlet Kate Upton flashes a wild bikini on this week's cover as Sports Illustrated's much-awaited annual swimsuit babe. Upton, a 19-year-old Floridian, was named the top "rookie" model in last year's Swimsuit Issue by the mag. This time she poses on an Aussie beach in a red-and-brown teeny bikini that makes her feel "sexy but confident," she tells the AP . "In Florida, people walk around in their flip-flops, bikinis, and jean shorts, so I'm very comfortable in a bathing suit," says the 5-foot-11 model. American Carrying Bullets Detained at Pakistan Airport

US officials investigating

(NEWSER) - An American is being held for questioning in Pakistan after airport security there found bullets in his luggage, according to authorities. The man, on his way from Peshawar to the capital of Islamabad, "has been detained and is under interrogation," a police superintendent tells Reuters . "We are in contact with the foreign office in Islamabad to check about his background, and tell us if he has diplomatic immunity." US officials are investigating. The last American busted with bullets was Raymond Davis, a CIA contractor who shot dead two Pakistanis in Lahore last year. A third Pakistani was killed after he was hit by an embassy vehicle racing to save Davis from an angry mob that had gathered. He was freed after two months in prison following the payment of compensation to his victims. More»

Pakistan Indicts PM Gilani

Prime minister pleads not guilty to contempt charges

(NEWSER) - As expected , Pakistan's highest court charged Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani with contempt today as helicopters swirled overhead and riot police warily watched his arrival. Gilani pleaded not guilty to the charges, reports the BBC , which stem from his refusal to re-open corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, and which Gilani says amount to a political witchhunt. If convicted, however, he would lose his post and face jail time. The case is adjourned til month's end, though many fear it will distract from Gilani's focus on the mountain of problems facing Pakistan. (NEWSER) - Osama bin Laden advised his children against a life of terror, according to one of his brothers-in-law. "He told his own children and grandchildren, go to Europe and America and get a good education," says Zakara al-Sadah, whose sister was the al-Qaeda chief's fifth wife. For now, Sadah claims, Pakistani authorities are holding nine bin Laden children and three wives—including Sadah's sister—in an Islamabad security compound against their will, reports the Daily Mail via The Sunday Times .
