(Newser) – A weary David Stern expressed grave disappointment yesterday in referee Tim Donaghy, who the FBI alleges bet on games he officiated. At a somber news conference without the omnipresent NBA logo behind him, the commissioner made clear his belief in Donaghy's guilt, which he likened to treason. Donaghy has not been charged.

Stern did not mention organized crime, but the feds say Donaghy may have been acting in concert with mobsters. Speaking with great deliberation, the commissioner called the scandal "the most serious situation and worst situation that I have ever experienced either as a fan of the NBA, a lawyer for the NBA or a commissioner of the NBA."
