Palm Pre Gets Big Thumbs Up

Palm's new Pre smartphone is the hottest product at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show by a long stretch, a smitten Lance Ulanoff writes at PC Magazine. Ulanoff heard a lot about the Pre before yesterday's rollout, but was still blown away by the smartphone's impressive specs, fresh interface, and groundbreaking innovations like the below-screen gesture area.

The Pre could be "the Palm, maybe the device, I've been dreaming about," Ulanoff gushes, thanks to the full-sized touch screen and QWERTY keyboard his iPhone and Blackberry Bold lack. Ulanoff hasn't had the chance to fondle a Pre himself yet, but he believes yesterday's demo could be a "phoenix moment" that signals Palm's just-in-time rebirth.
