(Newser) – A lobster almost as old as the Lincoln presidency will return to the ocean today after being freed by PETA, the Village Voice reports. The animal rights group persuaded a New York City seafood restaurant to release George, estimated to be 140 years old, and plans to free the old-timer in an area off the Maine cost where lobster trapping is forbidden.

George, a live 20-pound lobster, at City Crab and Seafood in New York, Friday, Jan. 9, 2009. George spent 10 days in the tank at the Manhattan joint after being caught off Newfoundland 2 weeks ago.
