(Newser) – Fidel Castro may be nearing the end of his life, reports the Miami Herald. It's been almost two months since Castro has been photographed in public. No images were released of his November meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and he was a no-show at the Jan. 1 celebrations of the 50th anniversary of his coming to power.

''Reliable sources have said that he was taken gravely ill,'' said an advisor to the US Task Force on Cuba. "They are monitoring this very closely, including looking for additional movements of security and troops. So far, none of this has happened.''

as he prepares for death, i wonder if he reflects on his brutal contributions that have resulted in so much suffering for so many people for 50 years.
