Gossip Girl Spinoff Set for May

New show will flash back to the '80s

(Newser) Gossip Girl fans, rejoice. After denying the rumors for months, the show’s producers now tell the Hollywood Reporter a spinoff is in the works. The new show will be set in the 1980s and tell the story Lily van der Woodsen—mom of Serena—and how fast times in Hollywood introduce Rufus Humphrey, and a secret pregnancy, as plot twists.

The new show will open with Lily being forced to leave her posh Montecito boarding school to move in with her sister in the—gasp!—Valley and go to—horrors!—public school. From there, she discovers the glitzy, fast-paced world of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip ... and, eventually, Rufus. The pilot will air as a regular Gossip Girl episode May 11.
