Glavine Wins 299th Game

Posted Jul 26, 07 5:28 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Tom Glavine recorded his 299th career win last night, as the Mets downed Pittsburgh 6-3. The 41-year-old, on track to become the 23rd 300-winner in MLB history, next takes the mound against Milwaukee on the 31st. "I'm proud of the company I'm getting myself into," said the left-hander, "I have a whole lot of stuff to start planning."

Glavine's early exit in last night's game left win number 299 in the hands of relievers Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner. "With a three-run lead and those two guys following you, you feel about as automatic as you can in this game," New York's ace beamed afterward. The victory lifts Glavine to 9-6 for the year.
