(Newser) – Bahamanian police are investigating two alleged extortionists accused of trying to wrangle millions from John Travolta after the Jan. 2 death of his son, Jett. One of the co-conspirators is “believed to be a politician,” the National Enquirer reports, citing a newspaper in the Bahamas, where Jett suffered a fatal seizure at the family’s vacation home.

“Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in the hopes of making millions of dollars,” Travolta’s attorneys said in a statement. They declined further comment.

Jett Travolta, the son of actor John Travolta, died earlier this month at the family's vacation home in Grand Bahama.
