Nigerian Cops Nab Goat for Car Heist

Nigerian police paraded a goat before journalists yesterday, calling it a "suspect" in an armed robbery case, the BBC reports. Vigilantes reportedly handed the goat to police and said it was a car thief that had shape-changed using witchcraft. Police later denied the goat was under suspicion. "Of course goats can't commit crime," a spokesman said.
Police reform advocates said the incident underlined the need for better education. "There are officers who don't even have a secondary school education, and the police have a big job to do in finding these people and getting rid of them," one said. He accused politicians of allowing police to fill their ranks with inept or criminal officers, who can easily be bribed to cover up official crimes.
