(Newser) – John McCain told Fox News Sunday that he wouldn’t back the stimulus bill as written by House Dems because it’s full of wasteful spending and includes little GOP input, Politico reports. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, on ABC’s This Week, and Sen. Chuck Schumer, also on Fox, disagreed, saying the bill had bipartisan backing, the Hill reports. Also:

  • Vice President Joe Biden talked about Gitmo on Face the Nation, saying "We won't release people inside the United States. They're either going to be tried in courts, in military courts, or sent back to their own country."
  • McCain said he had few regrets about the campaign and didn’t regret picking Sarah Palin for veep. “She energized our party. She has a bright future in our party,” he said.
  • Pelosi suggested she’d support plugging more federal cash into the financial system if needed.
  • Schumer noted that Caroline Kennedy had dropped her Senate candidacy for “personal and family reasons, and I think we ought to respect her privacy.”

Remember 6 months ago? McCain's last two ideas regarding the slowing economy were stupid. First he proposed an 18 cents/gallon gas tax holiday when gas was over $4 dollars a gallon. Next he suspended his (losing) campaign to fly to Washington to help broker a $700 billion dollar bailout give-away to Wall Street. Quit asking this putz for his economic opinions. He knows nothing. His tendency is to take both sides of every issue, e.g. illegal immigration, Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, etc. Oh, and during the campaign he named congressional earmarks as a significant cause of our Country's economic problems. If he's against the stimulus package, I'm automatically for it!

I don't think that was a mistake. I actually think some wisdom shown through for a moment.

McCain might have made a mistake with that last quote about Gov Palin. When asked if he would support her in 2012, he said he would have to see who else would run, yet if he actually had faith in her he would have spoke up right there and than
